Two Layered Walls

A two-layered wall, commonly known as one brick wall, is similar in width to the brick’s long edge, which is approximately 215mm. This wall consists of two different layers; a stretcher and a header. These walls are freestanding and can be used for anything which is over 600mm in height.

This type of wall has 120 bricks per square meter. You can do the math accordingly now that you know how many bricks in a pallet are.

Pillars

Pillars are vertical structures that offer additional support to the walls. The number of pillars you need depends on the size of the walls.

  • Single Brick Pier will require 14 bricks per vertical meter
  • One and a Half Brick Pier will require 34 bricks per vertical meter

Determine the Surface Area

Now that you have selected the type of wall you want and the number of piers/pillars, it’s time to determine the surface area. The first step is to measure your structure’s length and height, which will eventually help you choose the surface area.

Now that you have your surface area multiply the surface area by the type of wall. The result will state the number of bricks you will need per division. Use this formula:

  • One-Brick thick Wall = Surface Area(square meters) x 120

Now is the time to add extras such as piers and 10 percent to account for wastage, as mentioned above.

  • Single Brick Piers = Vertical Metre x 14
  • One and a Half Brick Piers = Vertical Metre x 34

The formula for Brick Wastage

  • Brick wastage = 10% of total quantity required

It is time to put it all together and determine the final number of bricks needed. Add the three values mentioned above, and you will get the desired number of bricks required to build a structure. It is pretty accurate.
